Monthly Activity Report - April 1970

V Coy
6 RAR/NZ (ANZAC) Bn
Nui Dat
6th May 1970

GENERAL

1. During the reporting period the Coy continued to be employed on OP TOWNSVILLE in AO AUCKLAND until 23 April 70 when they returned by APC to take part in ANZAC Day celebrations and prepare for the return to Singapore.

2.
During OP TOWNSVILLE the Coy found and destroyed several Bunker Systems. One of these systems had been recently occupied by elements of the BA LONG provincial HQ. Documents and codes captured in this system proved to be one of the greatest intelligence information captures this year in 1 ATF. The information gained from this source is likely to disrupt the enemy for some time.

3.
During the op, the Coy were involved in four contacts. Three were inconclusive and one was conclusive.

Results: Enemy- 1 VC KIA
    1 SKS CIA
Own- 1 KIA - Lt Kidd

4.
On return to Nui Dat on 23 Apr 70, the Coy took part in rehearsals and ANZAC day parades and then began preperation for the relief ofthe Coy by V5 Coy.

5.
The coy became non-operational on 1 May 70.

9. Leave. During this period 2 soldiers were sent to Singapore on R & C leave.

10. Dental.: Because of the return of 6 RAR pers to Australia it has not been possible to have all V Coy pers dentally checked. Approx 20 pers have been dentally checked in the last two months.

11. Postings. Postings for all pers of V Coy have now arrived.

12.
V5 Coy Advanced party. The V5 Coy advance party arrived to commence handover and take- over duties on 22 Apr. It has been unfortunate for them that V Coy came off the operation the next day. They have not been able to observe as much operational work as they would have wished.

'Q' MATTERS

13. The hand-over of stores has commenced and appears to be running smoothly.

14. A shipment of silver mugs for the members of V4 Coy have recently been purchased in Singapore, and were deliverd, according to our information, to 1 RNZIR on 7 - 8 Apr for transmission to Vietnam for presentation before the Coy left Vietnam. To this date they have not arrived, despite signals and requests for same. However it was noted that on 30 Apr 70a shipment of Coy Stores and pers eqpt arrived for V5 Coy Advance Party. Because of their non-arrival, this Coy is now required to distibute the mugs by mail to the many attached Aust Army pers who will have departed for Australia before our return to Singapore.
